ECKO - Empowering Communities through KnOwledge

ECKO is a Community Information System (CIS) that helps in the establishment of a generic E-community in a geographically closed region. It is designed as a generic, extensible, process-driven, software-based framework to build and nurture such generic E-communities. It provides a platform for creating, using and sharing of information among the members of E-Communities. ECKO provides a host of services, which could be classified into the following three categories.

  • Community Services
    - Facilitates community activities like Community Financing, Buying, Selling, Opinion Polls etc...
  • Communication Services
    - Facilitates interactive communication among members like Chat, Messaging, etc...
  • Information Services
    - Facilitates dissemination of information and generic services like Local news, local commodity prices
    local bullion prices etc...

ECKO is built using open source software (PHP, MySQL, APACHE). It also includes a localization framework that allows ECKO to be configured in any language. ECKO also eases the workload on the administrator by providing an extremely easy-to-install, configure and manage interface.

The system is currently deployed at six different locations in India: at Dhan Foundation, Melur in TamilNadu, at UNDP in Orissa, at AFARM in Maharashtra, at SOHART in Rajasthan and at MSSRF in Pondicherry and chennai.
